Last One Standing Backyard Ultra
Ready to push your limits a little—or a lot? The Last One Standing Backyard Ultra returns for its second year, running alongside our classic Kootenay Fun 5 but requiring its own separate registration for those adventurous (and maybe slightly wild) runners who want something more.
How It Works
Runners tackle a ~6 km loop and must finish within 60 minutes.
Finish in time? You earn the right to start again.
This cycle repeats every hour, on the hour, climbing into Cranbrook’s stunning Community Forest, until only one runner remains. The final athlete must complete one last loop solo—and is then crowned the Last One Standing.
Why Try It?
This race isn’t about beating others. It’s about testing yourself.
Whether you complete two loops or ten, the victory is in setting a goal, pushing your limits, and discovering what you’re capable of. The winner may take the title, but every participant walks away with a story they earned step by step.

Backyard Ultra participants receive everything included in the main KF5 registration—timing chip, swag bag, and full race access—plus:
Congratulations to all who participated in our inaugural Last One Standing event on May 3, 2025! 43 runners reached their various goals throughout the day - some got in three laps, and the last four competitors got in 13 laps!! Some chose not to continue onto the final lap, and others did not finish their final lap on time. They are all an example of endurance and tenacity to us all!

- Food and beverages at the start/finish area throughout the event

- All runners, except for the Last One Standing, proudly receive a DNF (Did Not Finish) mug, a true badge of honour in the backyard ultra world
